If you haven’t seen anything about the Maybelline Brow Tattoo, you need to get out from under your rock. It’s been the highlight of the beauty realms on the internet. Seeing people with crazy dark eyebrows that they peel off to reveal perfect brows, is certainly interesting…
I’ve been trying to get my hands on one since the day it launched because it was going to be an obvious hit or miss. A product that tattoos your brows on for 3 days? Sign me & the rest of the internet up. After a restock, I’ve finally managed to get one so without further ado, the Maybelline Brow Tattoo Review…
What it is:
Maybelline label it as an ‘Easy, peel off brow tint’. The point of it is to achieve salon brow tint results at home, without any fuss. Sounds good right? The brow tint comes in 3 shades: Medium Blonde, Medium Brown & Dark Brown retailing at £12.99. Not bad considering a 1 salon brow tint will set you back at least £8!
How to use:
So the tattoo brow comes in a mascara-like tube with a soft bristle lip-like brush to apply. Not the brush you’d expect to see but we’ll roll with it…
- You need to make sure your brows are completely clean and product free or the Brow Tattoo won’t set properly.
- Start shaping your brows the way you normally would. I used an angled brow brush for the fiddly bits and the brush provided to fill in large areas.
- Allow the Brow Tattoo to set for at least 20 mins. You can leave it up to 2 hours for a longer lasting effect.
- Use a cotton bud to wipe away any mistakes made before it dries down.
- Peel the Brow Tattoo off. Peel in the direction your brows grow, not against it. I don’t want anyone to suffer an accidental eyebrow waxing.
What I liked:
I was really surprised at how easy it was to apply. As soon as I saw the brush they provided I was like, no. Hell no. But I gave it a go and it was actually pretty easy to shape the brow using the Brow Tattoo brush. If you like a super arched brow, I would probably get an angled brush at the ready for your arching needs.
I left it on for 20 minutes originally and tried to peel it off then panicked because some hairs were coming out. So naturally, I thought, not today and just wiped it off with micellar water. That was a mistake, it completely removed all of the brow product and made the whole thing pointless. To get the best results you really do need to peel it off. Don’t worry, you won’t tear your eyebrows off, just be cautious. And definitely be sure to pull in the direction the hair grows, not against it.
The colour was nice! My brows are dark already and this definitely managed to deepen them up a little. I think if you’re a blondie that likes a dark brow, dark brown might be a little too dark in this instance. I’d say this is more of a black-brown than a true dark brown.
I have to say if you truly want your brows to stay tinted for a few days, get a brow tinting kit. After I’d removed the peel and washed my face I’d lost quite a lot of product that was on the skin. It stuck in the hairs but when quite patchy on the skin.
What I didn’t like:
I wasn’t overly sold on the amount of time it takes to develop. If it actually did the job in 20 minutes, I could live with that. But 2 hours is an insanely long time for a tint. It definitely does something in the 20 minutes but it doesn’t last so it’s not worth putting it on for less than 2 hours really. Unless this is your prefered method to do your brows every-single-day then I don’t recommend even trying it for 20 minutes.
(Brow tattoo set for 2 hours, no extra products)
A general brow tint at home takes about 7 minutes so quite a shocking time difference. I’m not 100% okay with the peeling aspect of it either. It’s hard to fully remove it unless you put on loads. And I mean loads.
I think this product would be amazing for someone that’s trying out brow tinting for the first time. It’s super easy to use, you don’t have to mix anything and can apply it straight from the tube. However, if you’re used to tinting your brows at home with a brow tinting kit, you’ll likely just find it more hassle – for worse results. The results initially are really nice but they don’t last very long. Like I said, I think it’s a perfect stepping stone into the world of brow tinting. I recommend it to anyone starting out. It’s not ideal for me but it’s still a nice product!
